The government has decided to require proof of Japanese-language ability for applicants seeking the Technical/Humanities/International Services visa. The new guideline will require CEFR B2 level Japanese, roughly equivalent to JLPT N2, and apply to new entrants who will work using Japanese; students seeking to change status are excluded. The guideline also tightens rules for providers in the technical intern training and specified skilled worker programs: operators that have been suspended for five years due to violations such as assault or wage arrears will be barred from accepting new 技人国 entrants until the suspension ends. The revision is planned for mid-April to strengthen screening.
