A disaster drill was held at a Japanese-language school in Fukuroi, Shizuoka Prefecture, aimed at improving disaster-awareness among foreign students. First a police officer used photographs to explain the history of major earthquakes in Japan. Afterwards, participants rode in a vehicle capable of simulating ground shaking up to Shindo 7 to experience motions comparable to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and the expected shaking from a Nankai Trough earthquake. One student said, "This is my first earthquake, so it's very scary, really scary." Fukuroi Police Station Security Section Chief Hiroto Akiyama commented that by letting them experience that earthquakes do occur, the training could help them prepare for disasters.
