Japan's Immigration Services Agency said the number of foreign residents at the end of June rose to 3,956,619, up about 187,000 from year-end, a 5.0% increase and a new record. By visa status, Specified Skilled Worker rose about 50,000 (18.2%), Permanent Residents reached 932,090 (up 1.5%), Engineering/Humanities/International Services at 458,109 (+9.4%), and Technical Intern Training declined to 449,432 (-1.6%). The Specified Skilled Worker total was 336,196, with No. 2 at 3,073 (up from 832). By nationality, China, Vietnam, and Korea accounted for about half of all residents; Myanmar and Nepal posted increases of 19.2% and 17.2% respectively among the top 10. Separately, first-half arrivals in 2025 totaled 21,376,170, about 3,550,000 more than a year earlier.
