In Ogori City, police held a traffic safety class at an auto school for foreign-language students. Thirty-one students from Nepal, Vietnam and other countries participated, learning bicycle rules such as riding on the left and not riding abreast by doing hands-on exercises and a staged crash. A Nepalese student noted that Nepal's rules are less strict, and Japan's environment makes it important to follow the rules when riding a bicycle. This year the prefecture logged 362 traffic accidents involving foreigners, including 70 bicycle crashes, up from last year. Officials said the event, the first of its kind as the number of foreign residents grows, aims to help students learn and follow Japanese traffic rules.
