According to OBS Oita, the number of foreign workers in the prefecture exceeded 14,000, reaching 14,378 as of the end of October last year, up 2,202 from the previous year and a record since the employer-notification system began in 2007. By nationality, Vietnam is the largest group with 3,186, followed by Indonesia and Myanmar, with notable growth from Southeast Asian countries. By visa status, technical intern training accounts for 5,578 workers, up 530 year on year, and entries in the professional and technical fields rose by about 35%. The number of workplaces employing foreign workers also hit a historic high, and further recruitment is expected, especially in welfare and medical sectors.
