According to the Iwate Labour Bureau, as of the end of October 2025 the number of workplaces employing foreigners in the prefecture reached 1,311 and the count of foreign workers was 8,415, both setting records. Key industries include food manufacturing, construction, retail, agriculture and care services; Vietnamese workers accounted for 2,254 people (26.8%), followed by Indonesians at 1,698. The bureau notes a shift in foreign workers’ nationalities toward Indonesia and Myanmar amid factors such as yen depreciation.
