As of October 2025, 3,993 foreigners were working in Akita Prefecture, up 457 from 2024 and the highest on record since reporting began in 2007, with 837 employers hiring foreigners — also a record. However, Akita remains the prefecture with the fewest foreign workers nationwide. The largest visa category is Technical Intern Training with 1,799 people, followed by Specialist/Technical fields with 1,178. By nationality, Vietnam leads with 967, and the Philippines has 810. The sectors with the biggest increases were Medical and Welfare (up 31.6%) and Construction (up 23.3%).
